First and foremost, this trip was a gift to us from our children. The gift was presented to us at the conclusion of our family vacation in Cancun, Mexico the prior year. We will be forever grateful to our children not only for their generosity, but even more so for knowing that they thought enough of us to plan, organize and contribute to the gift. We LOVE them all!
The cruise, taken in May 2007, was sixteen days on the Rhine and Mosel rivers. The cruise sailed from Antwerp, Belgium to Basel, Switzerland from one end of the Rhine River to the other. Part way up the Rhine we diverted into the Mosel River which we sailed to the navigable end at Trier and then back to continue up the Rhine.
During the cruise we sailed through some of the continent's most important cities, farms, vineyards, and villages. Along the way we saw storybook villages, great historic cities, the ruins of medieval castles, and glorious restored palaces. The cruise took us through the most scenic stretches of the Rhine and Mosel rivers from Belgium and Holland, through Germany and France and into Switzerland.
