Australia: Melbourne to Sydney

After our few days in Melbourne, we picked up our second rental car and were on our way for our four day trip to Sydney. This section of Australia was probably more spectacular than our drive to Melbourne with beautiful coastlines, beaches, bays and national parks.

After searching for kangaroo when we first got to Australia, we were beginning to learn that they are almost like deer in the USA; everywhere.

We took a dolphin watch cruise, visited one of the most beautiful national parks seen anywhere which took us on dusty, dirt roads. I actually had to have our rental car washed before returning it.

Again, once we shed our rental car in Sydney, we settled into our hotel for our last few days in Australia; a great few days they were. Sydney is a beautiful city where we enjoyed a harbor cruise, a ferry ride to Manly for lunch, and did a lot of walking.

On our final day, we took a tour to Blue Mountain and Scenic World; our first trip in Australia away from the coast and not a disappointment. Although the mountains are not very high by USA standards, between three and four thousand feet, they were beautiful. The valleys are full of eucalyptus trees; about a third of all eucalyptus trees in the world. Their leaves secrete an oil that with the sun creates a blue haze; really interesting and beautiful. Looking down from above the valleys look like a carpet covered by a blue haze.

In Scenic World, also in the Blue Mountains, we experienced two gondola rides, and incline train ride and a walk through the rain forest; being a really good day.

I hope our photos do justice to this part of Australia and give you some idea of how we enjoyed our drive to Sydney and Sydney itself.
